Engineered Nanostructured Photocatalysts for Cancer Therapy

The present review aims at highlighting recent advances in the development of photocatalysts devoted to cancer therapy applications. We pay especial attention engineering aspects different nanomaterials including inorganic semiconductors, organic-based nanostructures, noble metal-based systems or synergistic hybrid heterostructures. Furthermore, we also explore and correlate structural optical properties with their photocatalytic capability successfully performing cancer-related therapies. have made an emphasis introduce current alternatives organic photosensitizers (PSs) photodynamic (PDT), where effective generation reactive oxidative species (ROS) is pivotal boost efficacy treatment. overview efforts other strategies tackle based on photothermal treatment, starvation therapy, stress unbalance via glutathione (GSH) depletion, biorthogonal catalysis local relief hypoxic conditions tumor microenvironments (TME).
